Traditional woodland management and rural crafts are taught in small groups by experienced tutors in our peaceful semi-ancient woodland in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside. We also provide courses in willow sculpture and living willow installations at venues off-site to your group or organisation.

Bentwood chair making.

This two day course will provide you with the materials, knowledge and skills to make a beautiful bent wood chair from freshly cut native woods. The end result will be a chair you can take home with you that will look equally good indoors, or out in the garden!

Clay oven building.

Construct a stunning and functional earth oven. This course covers all aspects of earth oven creation from design to building right through to cooking and eating...

Tree felling with hand tools.

Exercise and job satisfaction! Use of felling axes, two man saws and bill hooks and covering directional felling and cording.
One day course: price £35 per person.

Coppice management.

The principles and practice of traditional woodland management. A hands-on course covering techniques, tool use and maintenance, regeneration cycles and tree species.
One day course: price £35 per person.

Introduction to hedge laying.

The ancient art of hedge laying, its practical uses, stock proofing, benefits to wildlife and countryside stewardship.
One day course: price £30 per person.

Living willow installations.

Create a living willow structure such as an arch or dome, a tunnel or fedge (live willow fence). Course covers planting techniques, willow varieties and aftercare.
One day course: price £60 per person.

Pole lathe wood turning.

Using a traditional human powered pole lathe, try your hand at producing simple items, such as a rolling pin, chair leg or rounders bat from green (freshly cut) native wood. Materials included.
One day course: price £60 per person.

Willow Christmas gifts.

Wrap up warm and get creative round the camp fire. A morning course teaching simple willow weaving techniques. Dreamcatchers, spirals, fairy lanterns to decorate your home or give as gifts to those you love. Tea/ coffee and mince pies included.
Course from 10.00am to 1.00pm: price £10 per person.

Three legged stool making.

Make a traditional three legged milking stool, stable on the most uneven of surfaces! Use a two person saw to create your seat and use freshly coppiced materials for the legs. The result will be a truly unique stool to take home with you. Materials included.
One day course: price £60 per person.

Willow sculpture.

A one day course teaching willow weaving techniques. Using green and pre-soaked willow you will create small items for decorative or functional use to take away with you. The two day course will explore these themes further, enabling participants to embark on a larger sculpture project of their own.
One day course: price £60 per person.

All course fees include light refreshments. Please bring a packed lunch and wear weatherproof clothing. On some courses there will be an additional charge for materials payable on the day. Please contact us for more information.

Please note:
  • All courses must be booked in advance. Places are limited so please contact us to secure a booking.
  • Course fees may be paid in full at time of booking. Alternatively, a deposit of 50% of the total fee may be paid at the time of booking, with the balance payable at course commencement. Deposits are non-returnable in the event of you being unable to attend, but may be creditable against another course at our discretion.
  • We reserve the right to cancel courses at any time.
  • If we have to cancel a course we try to provide an alternative date to suit you, if this should not prove possible your deposit will be refunded.
